My name is Sara Leedom, and I'm the founder of Iyaga Honey.

I've called Rwanda home for more than fourteen years — long enough for this landscape, its people, and its rhythms to become part of how I see the world. Over that time, I've had the honor of working alongside entrepreneurs across Africa, and along the way, beekeepers and honey found me.

It started with curiosity and grew into something closer to devotion. I've sat with abavumvu — beekeepers — here in Rwanda, and sought out others like them in more than fifteen countries around the world, learning their methods and values. I've come to understand honey not as a product but as a relationship: between beekeeper and bee, and between bee and the land.

That relationship is at the heart of Iyaga Honey. In addition to beekeeping ourselves, we source from local beekeepers across the country, giving them access to market and sharing guidance on bee-friendly practices. Every jar of ubuki we offer is natural and minimally processed — as close as possible to what the bees themselves made. We're a woman-owned company, and we source honey the way we believe the bees deserve: gently, patiently, and always asking what's best for the hive.

Bees are under real pressure — from drought, from pesticides, from disappearing habitat. We can't undo all of that, but we can choose, jar by jar, to do right by the bees. That's what I intended when launching Iyaga Honey, and I'm grateful for you to join the journey with me and the bees.
